National Coming Out Day
National Coming Out Day is a special day to celebrate and advocate for those still in the closet, those questioning themselves, and the courage it takes to live authentically as yourself.
Coming out is a process that is different for everyone. A heart to heart with family, an announcement on social media, a private conversation with a trusted friend, or even anonymous friends in a chatroom. It’s ok to take it at your own pace, after all safety is always important and it's a process. Only you know your circumstances. But remember you’re not alone, there are those that will support and care for you. Most of all remember that despite the hardship and courage it takes to make that journey, it’s worth it.
If you’re an ally, help those around you by being vocally supportive of LGBTQ+ to create safe spaces for those still questioning themselves or unsure if they can be themselves in all of their environments. Whether it be at home, work, school, or the neighborhood; coming out is not a one time process and LGBTQ+ people have to navigate disclosing their identities in all aspects of their lives. The more their fears of being judged or ostracized are allayed the freer and happier their lives can be. So educate yourself on LGBTQ+, call out discrimination whenever you see it, and be a vocal advocate!
