Travel Log: San Jose/San Francisco

BIGPAW in front of the USS Hornet in Alameda, CA. Mr. Raccoon vended at Galactic Camp 2026 on the ship back in May, and between running a booth and the whole con weekend there wasnt much time to actually look around. So once we had more time to explore the area we decided to swing back by, and it made us wish we had planned an extra day around the con in the first place. There were a bunch of really cool spots to eat around there but our favorite by far was Almanac Adventureland & Brewery. It ended up being the perfect hangout spot and would of been great for a meetup with friends too.

We spent 2 days exploring San Francisco (our paws were definitely sore by the end) and finally made it to the Golden Gate Bridge on our last day. It was so worth the effort. We had seen it on TV a million times but in person it was way more epic. There were some really cool paths leading down to the shore that we highly recommend if you have the time, and they made for some great photo spots. Just a heads up, the paths weren’t very wheelchair accessible but there were buses that could take you down there as well.

We had seen it on TV a bazillion times but in person it was way more epic. There were some really cool paths leading down to the shore (photo bellow)  that we highly recommend if you have the time, it made for some great photo spots too, especially if you brought your ears or tail along. Just a heads up, the paths weren’t very wheelchair accessible but there were buses that could take you down there as well. If you’re in town for a con it’s totally worth tacking on an extra day to see it.

San Francisco and the surrounding suburbs ended up being a great time. The only notes we would give our fellow critters is to do your research before booking housing or outings. There were some really beautiful areas but it was also a big city with its rougher spots, like any big city. We never had a problem and every critter we met was amazing, but if it’s your first time in the city we highly recommend sticking with a group, whether you’re there for a con, a meetup or just exploring with friends.

Also be ready for higher prices on meals and groceries if you’re not from the area. We’re Midwest based and definitely had a bit of sticker shock, so we ended up budgeting a little more than we expected.

We would recommend looking at the upcoming meet up of the Bay Area Furries if you want to try to see some friendly furry faces while in town.
